Heist #1: Homeland Insecurity

Pencils and Inks by Andres Ponce
Colors by Rocio Zucchi
Letters by Brendan McGinley
Plot and Edits by Brendan McGinley and Josh Elder
Cover by Andres Ponce and Juan Manuel Tumburus
Release Date: Ongoing

I’ve never reviewed a webcomic before but found it pretty similar to reading digital comics on my tablet. I read Heist#1: Homeland Insecurity twice because I knew that I had missed something on my first go. The comic itself was entertaining and held my attention all the way through. Brandon McGinley has taken the standard hero/villain story and twisted it a bit. I was stunned to see that the art was pencil and ink, it was so cleanly done that it seemed digitally rendered at times [...]

Netflix Review: The Serpent And The Rainbow

The Serpent And The Rainbow

The Serpent And The Rainbow
Netflix Streaming
DVD
Directed by Wes Craven
Written by Richard Maxwell and Adam Rodman
Based on the novel by Wade Davis
Starring Bill Pullman, Cathy Tyson, Zakes Mokae
Universal Pictures
Originally Released: February 5, 1988

After taking a look at a couple of documentaries for our Netflix review series, I concluded it was time to jump back into something a little more familiar for me: Horror. Recently added to the Netflix streaming collection, The Serpent And The Rainbow is a classic horror movie in the true sense of the word “classic” – it hearkens in the past to an age where overrated frights and intense gore was not necessarily a part of the genre [...]

These Batman Stamps Are Totally Rad

MK2Fac3   |

Batstamps Header

They may not be “real,” as defined by Webster’s Dictionary, but these stamps designed by Canadian DeviantArtist koinogenki are totally awesome and should by all means exist in The United States so that I might purchase and put them in my fictional stamp collection.

They’re really cool in a sort of pop art, neo deco style that mixes the style of the silver age Batman adapted to the stylish sensibility of Batman: The Animated Series. Anyway, check out the full collection of these Batman stamps below [...]

Convention Round-Up: First Annual Comikaze Expo

RoughJustice   |

Comikaze Expo

As a Southern California native I have been spoiled with comic and multimedia conventions. I have San Diego Comic Con to the south and Long Beach Comic Con to the north; the only thing I was missing was a convention at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Recently, my prayers to various Norse gods were answered in the form of Comikaze held at the Los Angeles Convention Center on November 5 and 6.

When I envision a comic, horror, anime, and gaming convention in its first year, I instantly picture 7 to 10 guys in a very poorly lit motel conference room. Comikaze definitely had its up’s and down’s in terms of pure geek culture you couldn’t ask for something greater, but as someone who is at comic conventions year-round, there was some things left to be desired. I saw a lot of things I liked and a few things I was not so crazy about, so close your eyes (then open them) and let me take you on a journey of L.A’s Comikaze [...]

First, getting it out of the way, there will be one Blu-ray upgrade hitting on February 7th, and it’s a monster.
