Was ‘Pride and Prejudice’ Author Jane Austen Murdered?

We’ve seen it happen in entertainment numerous time: an author’s fictional written worlds somehow become a reality, and the author must then use their knowledge on said worlds and characters to figure out just what’s going on.
This time, however, it’s not a story.
Crime author Lindsay Ashford has reason to believe that famed author Jane Austen did not die of an illness as is suspected, but that she may have actually been murdered. [...]

Wow. Ghostbusters #3 is made completely out of 100% pure love. Love for the franchise, love for the films, love for the cartoon, love for the fans, and love for the comic book medium. You know the “love” that comic fans think only exist in small-press creator-owned comics? Guess what? It exists in licensed comics too. This issue is a prime example.
First off, there are SO many ways a monthly Ghostbusters comic could go wrong. Thankfully writer Erik Burnham figured them all out, wrote them down, and then threw them away [...]

Trailer For Robert De Niro’s ‘Being Flynn’ Hits
 |
Posted by Cinemumra | November 16th, 2011 at 3:00 pm |

If there has been a weirder career than Robert De Niro’s, this writer hasn’t seen it.
Starting his career off like gangbusters in classics like Taxi Driver, the past few years haven’t been so kind to the legend, but that appears as though it has begun to change. We now have the trailer for his upcoming film, Being Flynn, and while it doesn’t look groundbreaking, it definitely looks like a fine film [...]

Comic Review: Conan: Road of Kings #10

Conan: Road of Kings #10
Written by Roy Thomas
Art by Dan Panosian
Colors by Dan Jackson
Letters by Richard Starkings & Comicraft
Cover by Aleksi Briclot
Dark Horse Comics
Release Date: November 16th, 2011
Cover Price: $3.50
This month’s issue of Conan: Road of Kings has both its hits and misses. Unfortunately, it goes to extremes. When it hits, it hits hard and when it misses, it misses big. Part of me will always give this book the benefit of the doubt, because it’s Roy Thomas writing Conan, and you can’t really get much better than that, right?
Legendary Conan writer Roy Thomas handles Conan: Road of Kings #10, I feel, as if he really wasn’t sure where it was going when he started writing it. As a result, there is a LOT of politics involved in this issue, and they stand out like a sore thumb. Kind of like the endless scenes in the Star Wars prequels that take place in the Galactic Senate [...]

The GoD List: Comics For November 16, 2011
 |
Posted by MK2Fac3 | November 16th, 2011 at 12:00 pm |

Each and every week “The Guy That Won’t Stop Tweeting About Felicity” MK2Fac3 and “Give Me An O!” Henchman21 read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible… theoretically. They look forward to some more than others, I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of their pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of November 16, 2011. Single issues and trades, they’re all here.
Okay, so Felicity is a really great show, you guys. It’s about a college-aged girl’s growth as a person when she goes to college in New York City, a long way away from her hometown of Palo Alto, California. In my humble opinion, it’s the spiritual follow up to one of my favorite shows of all time, My So-Called Life. I’m still in the first season, but I can’t stop watching it, nor can I stop talking about it. Hence, what I’m writing right now. It’s a J.J. Abrams show, and you can absolutely tell. It’s not science fiction, but there’s a lot of fun to be had. Also, it’s streaming on Netflix Instant Watch, so you should totally check it out. Oh wait, I’m not reviewing Felicity? I’m supposed to be talking about comics? This is The GoD List! Well, let’s get to it! [...]

This Day In KISStory: 30th Anniversary Of ‘Music From The Elder’
 |
Posted by cGt2099 | November 16th, 2011 at 11:01 am |

“When the Earth was young, they were already old…”
30 years ago on this day in KISStory, an album would be issued that would be a turning point, and at the time a low point, for the band and their fans. Music From The Elder, produced by the legendary Bob Ezrin (responsible for the epic Destroyer), was released by KISS on November 16, 1981. The release was a concept album, and a comprehensive departure for the band, which was negatively received by both fans and critics alike.
As time has progressed, however, the album has achieved somewhat of a cult status among both KISS fans and rock/metal fans. For some reason, Music From The Elder has matured well, and while it was perhaps the most obscure and odd of all KISS releases, some now point to the album as their favorite [...]

Watch The Trailer For Snow White Film ‘Mirror, Mirror’
 |
Posted by Cinemumra | November 16th, 2011 at 10:00 am |

Well, this is definitely not what we would have expected.
Following the release of the first bit of footage from the shockingly good looking Snow White And The Huntsman, Relativity has released the first trailer from their upcoming Snow White flick, Mirror, Mirror. And despite being from a man who frankly should kill at this narrative, Tarsem Singh, it looks rather uninteresting.
Watch the trailer here below [...]

‘Twilight’ Star Kristen Stewart May Be Playing Kei In Live-Action ‘Akira’ Remake

According to Twitch, Kristen Stewart, star of The Twilight Saga and the upcoming Snow White and the Huntsman, has been offered the female lead in Warner Brothers’ upcoming live-action remake of hit Japanese manga and animated feature, Akira.
In most cases this would be chalked up as nothing more than a rumor, but, unfortunately for those who will weep at such news, Twitch has been the go-to source for breaking Akira news, including first reporting the news that Garrett Hedlund has been offered the lead role of Kaneda and that Gary Oldman and Helena Bonham Carter had also been offered roles [...]

David Fincher Directing ‘Cleopatra’?
 |
Posted by Cinemumra | November 15th, 2011 at 10:17 pm |

Now here is a film to get excited about.
While the vocal majority may have found the team of David Fincher and writer Eric Roth to have produced underwhelming results with The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, the film is one of this writer’s favorite films of the past few years, and is the sole reason why this is one of the best bits of news in some time.
Variety is reporting that the pair are set to take on the film Cleopatra [...]

Spielberg Eyeing WB’s ‘Gods And Kings’
 |
Posted by Cinemumra | November 15th, 2011 at 9:00 pm |

Looking at his career, you would imagine that someone like Steven Spielberg would have gotten his hands on a biblical project at some point, right? Well, until now, that hasn’t been the case. Until now, that is.
Twitch is reporting that WB and Steven Spielberg have gone from laughingly chatting about to deeply discussing the likelihood of the latter jumping aboard the former’s upcoming film, Gods And Kings. The film will be penned by Michael Green and Stuart Hazeldine, and will tell the story of Moses, from the man’s birth up until his death [...]

Drew Struzan Original ‘Police Academy’ Poster Art Going For 40K

Drew Struzan is retired now, and it’s doubtful we’ll ever see his like again, not in this universe. Struzan is by far one of the greatest movie poster artists the industry produced; he has created the posters for the Indiana Jones series, the 1997 Star Wars Special Edition re-releases, the Back to the Future trilogy, the 1982 version of The Thing, and other cherished films too numerous to count. He also designed the poster art for three of the Police Academy movies, and now a large selection of Struzan’s original acrylic paintings are being sold for big bucks at the artist’s website [...]

I have to admit, I’ve fallen a little behind in the Kirby: Genesis universe, but Captain Victory #1 really intrigued me when it was announced a few months ago, and I’m happy to report, it is exactly what I’d hoped that it would be. A good old-fashioned sci-fi action comic, with a few twists and turns thrown in to make things interesting [...]

Book Review: Grant Morrison’s Supergods
 |
Posted by MK2Fac3 | November 15th, 2011 at 6:00 pm |

Supergods
Hardcover | Kindle
Written by Grant Morrison
Spiegel & Grau
Release Date: July 19, 2011
Spanning from the dawn of the superhero in the golden age to the jaded modern era, Supergods is a personal account of writer Grant Morrison‘s knowledge of and love affair with superhero comics.
Supergods is not a perfect book, but hardly anything is. It poses a bit as a textbook on the history of comic books from the presentation of the work itself including chapter titles, index, and sections. The first few chapters covering the golden age are told mostly as historical information that helps the writer truly learn more about comics and the creation of characters like Superman and Batman. There are a couple of opinionated interjections within these chapters, but most are commonly accepted in the industry as fact. So, that’s perfectly acceptable. You start to realize, however, that this is not a book about the history of comics as much as it is about Grant Morrison’s history with comics. It’s not so much an analysis of superheroes, as much as it is a book about how superheroes affected the life of one of the most fascinating writers in the history of comics [...]

Writer Chuck Dixon got my letters. After a few disappointing issues, I am happy to report there is 100% more Snake Eyes ninja butt-kicking in Snake Eyes #7 than in the last three issues combined. THANK YOU, CHUCK!! Not only that, but this issue actually moves the Hunt for Cobra Commander story arc forward, as we’ve only got two more issues of G.I. Disney has announced that they will be debuting the short film Tangled Ever After prior to the release of Beauty And The Beast 3D, on January 13, 2012.
