That apparently didn’t take all that long.
Deadline is reporting that WB has found a replacement for Steven Soderbergh, who recently left the project, in the form of one Guy Ritchie to take over the studio’s long talked about project, The Man From U.N.C.L.E..
Ritchie will direct from a script penned by Scott Z. Burns, and will be based on the beloved television show.
Personally, this is about as far a change of pace as one can get director-wise. There couldn’t be two directors further away from each other stylistically than Soderbergh and Ritchie, and honestly, that’s what makes this story so appealing. Ritchie is a really solid action filmmaker, and that could be just what this project needs. Soderbergh is obviously more talented, but if this means we will be getting something more original or inventive from him, then this is a great bit of news. Here’s to hoping the cast for this one can shape up to be something intriguing.
