If you’re a fan of the HBO comedies Hung, Bored to Death, or How To Make It In America, then you’re about to have a very bad day as HBO has decided to cancel all three of them. If you’re a fan of the new show Enlightened, on the other hand, you can rejoice as a second season has been ordered.
It’s unclear exactly why it was decided to cancel the three shows—Hung was the highest rated of all four of them and star Thomas Jane just scored another Golden Globe nomination, while Enlightened was struggling a bit in the ratings department but did land itself two Globe nominations, which likely helped a great deal.
Another deciding factor has to be HBO’s upcoming lineup of new comedies. Upcoming titles include Judd Apatow’s Girls, Ricky Gervais’s Life’s Too Short, Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s Veep, and Chris Lilley’s Angry Boys, with two others also in the works.
What are your thoughts on the decision to cancel these shows?
