$5 MP3 Deal: Green Day – Insomniac
 |
Posted by Obi-Dan | December 27th, 2011 at 6:00 pm |

Green Day’s fourth album, Insomniac, was a darker affair than its predecessors but is considered by some as the album the Californian trio has never bettered. Right now you can download the brilliant Insomniac for $5 on Amazon.com.
Before they got all political and tried to stick it to “The Man,” Green Day wrote impossibly catchy punk rock. Songs like “Geek Stink Breath” and “Walking Contradiction” for a long time defined their sound and were hugely influential to the genre in the mid-90s. [...]

Two Promising Gameplay Trailers From The ‘Game Of Thrones’ RPG Released

Back in October we first heard about a “Mass Effect-style” Game of Thrones RPG in the works that was based on author George R.R. Martin‘s A Song of Ice and Fire book series. Now the first two gameplay trailers for the game have been released, and it’s looking pretty promising!
The game has been made along with Martin, and will follow a storyline that weaves itself into the existing mythology. Mors Westfold, a member of the Night’s Watch on the Wall, and a Red Priest named Alester Sarwyck will act as the two original main characters of the game, but players will also encounter many of the popular (and not so popular) names and faces from the books and TV series as well. [...]

Book Review: Crooked Hills
Crooked Hills
Written by Cullen Bunn
Earwig Press
Release Date: May 7, 2011
I cannot think of a more difficult genre to write in then young adult horror. On one hand you have to maintain an element of fright and suspense to keep the genre true to its form. On the other hand as a writer you have to carefully construct frightening scenarios as to not traumatize young readers (at least not too much).
Cullen Bunn seems to have found that sweet spot with his latest young adult horror novel Crooked Hills. What Cullen Bunn has done here is create something that is often scary and nerve wracking, but at its core a testament to the spirit of childhood adventure [...]

The Bumble & Wampa Snow Creatures Battle It Out As Cupcakes

As far as snow creatures go, the Wampa Ice Creature from Star Wars: The Empires Strikes Back and the Bumble, the Abominable Snow Monster from Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, are probably the most popular. So, it’s not so surprising that someone would want to pit the two monsters against each other.
The Sugar Swings baking blog decided to do so by whipping up a few batches of Wampa and Bumble cupcakes. The results are pretty awesome [...]

Red Letter Media’s Mr. Plinkett Reviews ‘Indiana Jones and the Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull’

Mr. Plinkett, the sardonic, slow-speaking (dude sounds creepily like Buffalo Bill) video reviewer for Red Letter Media, has returned with another of his cuttingly funny and methodical dissections of another blockbuster from recent years.
In the past, he’s ripped movies like Star Wars – Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, Avatar, and the 2009 Star Trek with joyous gusto. This time around he turns the tables on Steven Spielberg and George Lucas‘ Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the fourth go-around for filmdom’s favorite fedora-sporting archaeologist/adventurer and a celluloid corpse that has been kicked plenty enough over the years [...]

There is a common misconception that all geeks like the same things. While it is true that some franchises like Star Wars seem to be universally loved by all geeks, there are several different geek categories. Explaining this to a nongeek used to be a difficult task and would require a clever video or PowerPoint presentation… until now.
The Geektionary is a helpful guide to the many different genres of geekdom. There is individual chapters on Science Fiction, Comic Books, Anime and Manga, Science, and even a chapter on Sports. Of course, there are also chapters on Gaming and Television and the Movies [...]
