Hello friends. Have the January doldrums got you down? Do you stand outside at night, staring up at the sky and wondering what lies out there in the infinite? Are you yearning for adventure the likes of which no one has ever dreamed of? If you answered “yes” to any of those questions, then we here at Geeks of Doom have the solution to your problems. And it may just be out there beyond the stars.
The Frontier is under attack by the evil forces of Xur and the Ko-Dan Armada and only you, the last of the great Starfighters, can save the universe from annihilation and enslavement. Okay, not really, but the good people at Rogue Synapse have created a special PC freeware game based on the arcade game seen in the 1984 sci-fi adventure The Last Starfighter.
You can check out a video demonstration of the game here below.
The plot of The Last Starfighter revolved around a space-set first-person shooter arcade game used to recruit warriors from all over the galaxy for a real interstellar war. The graphics for Rogue Synapse’s Starfighter back in 2006 are based on those of the film’s and the game’s creators have even gone to great lengths to replicate the feel of an authentic 1980s arcade game, right down to the fonts. An 8-bit version of the film’s main title theme composed by Craig Safan and actual Starfighter game audio from the film enhance this amazing retro experience.
You can download the game for free here. Of course the top score still belongs to A.R.
