Shockingly, since the breakout success of The Blind Side, we haven’t heard much of anything from the film’s director, John Lee Hancock. That is, until now.
Deadline is reporting that Hancock will write and direct an upcoming adaptation of the John Grisham novel, The Partner.
The novel follows the story of “Patrick Lanigan, a young partner in a white shoe Biloxi law firm with a wife and newborn daughter. Trapped in a burning car one night, he died, leaving behind only ashes. But Lanigan is disillusioned enough by his life to fake his death and steal $90 million from his firm. He just has to hope the wrong people don’t catch up with him as he goes on the run.”
Personally, I think this is an interesting move by Hancock. I kind of loathed The Blind Side, but am a definite sucker for legal dramas like this. I’m not familiar with the narrative outside of that log line, but hopes are definitely high for this picture, despite Hancock’s rather odd filmmaking career. I mean, it has to be better than his last film, right?
