Metallica Says ‘Save The Date’ But For What?

Metallica has posted a video to their official YouTube page simply titled “Save The Date.” The 30-second teaser video mentions how we’ve seen Metallica play festivals all over the world and then displays the names of the various festivals they’ve participated in, like Download and Rock In Rio. But, apparently, whatever is in store for them next, it’ll be new to us and the announcement will come in a few days.

You’ve seen them at festivals across the world
But you’ve never seen them…

The video ends by telling us to tune in Tuesday, February 7 at 11AM PST.

But, what will the big announcement be?

Some YouTube commenters speculate that the announcement will have something to do with the band’s planned 3D movie, which they confirmed on their official site back in January.

“As you know, we generally make it a policy not to comment on gossip or rumors, but we also pride ourselves on being first with ‘TALLICA news. So, with that said, the more astute of you may have noticed a couple of mentions in trade publications, and most recently in the new issue of Rolling Stone, that a METALLICA 3D movie is in the works. We’re here to tell you that, yes, there is indeed a 3D project in the very early stages of production! We wish we could tell you more right now, but we don’t have all the finer points nailed down just yet. What we can tell you is that we are planning on being in a theatre near you sometime in 2013 and as you hear us say ever so often, this will be the space for all the details as we finalize them.” [Source: Metallica.com]

Personally, while I love Metallica (always have), I’m not a fan of 3D, so I’m really hoping the news is something better than just more details regarding a previously announcement 3D movie. Because the tease mentions the major festivals the band has already played, I would think that Tuesday’s news will have something to do with them playing another big show. Metallica has already played with the Big 4 in my hometown of New York this past Summer, so I don’t the news of another show will be at a place where I can see them again.

What would be awesome is if they announced their plans to play Antarctica – now that would be kickass. Ooh, even better, the first band to perform at the International Space Station!!!!!!!!!!

But yeah, anything but “Details on 3D movie” would be fine with me.
