Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy Fire Back At Fox News’ Attacks On ‘The Muppets’

BAADASSSSS!   |

The Muppets

You can’t blame the good people at Fox News for feeling the need to stir up some outrage; their relentless campaign of disinformation against President Obama has made them pariahs among more respectable news outlets and the current crop of Republican presidential candidates isn’t exactly inspiring confidence that the GOP will take back the White House this Fall (in a recent Fox News poll 44% of their viewers now believe that Obama would win a second term if either Mitt Romney or Newt Gingrich were the 2012 Republican candidate for President).

One of the network’s favorite targets has always been “liberal” Hollywood and how they want to impose their debauched lifestyles and depraved beliefs on the fragile young mindsets of young Americans and lay waste to traditional family values in an apocalyptic fire of legalized abortion and medicinal marijuana. Most of the time certain outspoken celebrities give the fuming news drones at Fox plenty of fuel for their bilious fury, but then there are other times when it’s obvious that they’re just grasping at straws.

Such an instance was two months ago, shortly after the release of The Muppets. Eric Bolling, an anchor drone over at Fox’s struggling spin-off channel Fox Business News, accused the filmmakers behind the eagerly anticipated return of Jim Henson’s lovable puppet creations to the big screen of sneaking in an anti-capitalist message by having its villain be an evil oil billionaire (played by Oscar-winner Chris Cooper). Bolling said, “Liberal Hollywood depicting a successful businessman as evil. That’s not new.” Then he and fellow mindless corporate greed apologist Dan Gainor from the conservative watchdog group Media Research Center went on to slam The Muppets and films as disparate as Cars 2 and There Will Be Blood for daring to depict oil industry executives as servants of the dark lord Beezelbub, but not without wondering why the Obama administration couldn’t be a villain for the Muppets to face.

During a press conference to promote the U.K. premiere of their film Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy were asked about the unfounded accusations by Fox News and needless to say they didn’t frame their rebuttal in the form of an endless and idiotic rant. Kermit posed the rhetorical question, “If we had a problem with oil companies then why would have spent the entire film driving around in a gas-guzzling Rolls-Royce?” Miss Piggy then offered her own take on the so-called controversy: “It’s almost as laughable as accusing Fox News as, you known, being news.”

You can watch both videos here below.

The failure of Fox’s ego-maniacal attempts to drag a beloved American institution like the Muppets down to their pathetic level and the ensuing mockery they’ve had to endure since is just proof positive that the network is sadly out of touch with the changing times and thus deserving of each and every ounce of ridicule. Maybe next time they can have Sean Hannity do an entire hour about how the death of Bambi’s mother is an attempt by liberal Hollywood to infringe on the Second Amendment rights of private gun owners.

  1. Oh man.  I like reading GeeksofDoom.  I wish you’d guys stay out of politics.  You could have left it a simple dumb guy at FOX deal.  I don’t think the whole thing was that big of a deal.  And yes there IS a media bias, hollywood bias, etc. that is “liberal”.  I’ve seen numerous pieces of evidence of that.  I don’t think there is a secret meeting or anything like that.  It’s just like-minded people who are in control of media outlets reflecting their values through their work.  Just like FOX does.  It’s a mainstream america, more conservative, moderate, outlet for news.  It’s only popular b/c it balances out how biased the rest of the media is.  Thank god for them or it’d be like Iran here.  They’d be telling us how great Obama and the Democrats are and we would know no better.  We’d have to have an underground newsletter or something to get an alternative point-of-view out there.  The MUPPETS is “NOT” a really good example no.  I agree.  But there is a bias out there.  And it sickens me.  People in this country and all over the world have, and are, dying for free press.  Nothing burns me more than people in the media who crap on that freedom.  They’re supposed to be un-biased… unless it’s an opinion piece.  If you’re liberal you wouldn’t understand.  It would all seem ok to you.  It scares the hell out of me that all that is left if FOX News.  Nobody has ever given one example either where FOX news is biased, unfair, or the big one LYING.. about anything.  They just repeat that crap b/c they hear it from somewhere else “LIKE HERE”.  THat’s the only reason I reply.  It’s not right that you write crap like that about FOX News and it doesn’t get rebutted.
