Who Trek

This May, the worlds of Doctor Who and Star Trek will collide in comic book form with an all-new series coming to IDW Publishing.

The 8-issue series, called Star Trek TNG/Doctor Who: Assimilation2, will see the two scifi powerhouse franchises together for the first time in comic book form when The Doctor teams up with Captain Jean-Luc Picard and his crew aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise from Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Star Trek The Next Generation/Doctor Who: Assimilation2 will be written by Scott and David Tipton (Star Trek: Infestation), with help from longtime Doctor Who writer Tony Lee, and will feature fully painted artwork by J.K. Woodward (Fallen Angel). The comic will see the villainous Borg and Cybermen joining forces against our heroes. Check out the full cover here below.

Launching in May, STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION/DOCTOR WHO: ASSIMILATION2 will feature fan-favorite villains the Borg and the Cybermen as they create an unholy alliance resulting in potential disaster for all humanity. Captain Jean-Luc Picard and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise find themselves joining forces with the Doctor and his companions, with the fate of the galaxy hanging in the balance.

Star Trek TNG/Doctor Who: Assimilation2 #1, which will be 32 full-color pages, will be available in stores in May 2012. Along with the standard cover will be a rare wraparound photo cover edition, as well as a variant cover featuring the Doctor and friends aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise by artist Joe Corroney (Star Trek Ongoing).

IDW promises that the new series will take fans on “an adventure where no man has gone before” and this fan right here is very excited for it! The Doctor and Captain Picard – that right there is enough to make a great story; add in the Borg and the Cybermen, oh man, this is going to be amazing!

  1. I never would have thought the Cyber-Men would have provided a threat to anyone with the kind of technology TNG can bring to the table.  Phasers cut through metal men like a hot knife through butter, and a Klingon is not a dumpy Brit with the tactical instincts of a marshmellow.  Unless the threat is a Borgified Doctor, where is the conflict?

  2. I think that considering Pickard was Locutis(s/p?) and then there is also Data which I am sure the Doctor will find both brilliant and suspicious as after his involvement with the Borg is incredibly interesting. I think that since the Borg are fundamentally different than Cyber-men there is a wealth of story. I would definitely like to see what dimension this is even in and how the Doctor explains the Federation in general and if they have anything on Gallifrey in the mainframe.

    And a Borg/Doctor is always a possibility. I personally can’t wait.
