For all of you fans of Japanese animation who are dreading the live-action Akira movie and other similar projects, you can now add another one to the list.
Warner Brothers is now developing a live-action version of the hit manga/anime Bleach. The studio has brought in Dan Mazeau, who recently worked on the Clash of the Titans sequel, Wrath of the Titans, to adapt it into screenplay form.
Peter Segal is also attached to the project as a producer, and there’s a chance that he’ll also direct. Segal is best known as the director of titles such as Naked Gun 33 1/3, Tommy Boy, Anger Management, 50 First Dates, The Longest Yard [2005], and Get Smart.
Bleach tells the story of a teenager who’s given the powers of a Soul Reaper, which is quite similar to the Grim Reaper, by another. With these new powers, he must protect humans from evil spirits while guiding the deceased over to the other side.
