MGM has found their lead for the planned reboot of Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 sci-fi classic, RoboCop.
It’s being reported that Swedish-American actor Joel Kinnaman has landed the coveted role of a cop who’s gunned down on the job and rebuilt as a part man/part machine supercop who’s unleashed to put an end to crime in viciously violent fashion.
The reboot is being directed by Jose Padilha (Bus 174, Elite Squad), and is written by Josh Zetumer.
Kinnaman is best known for his role in AMC’s series The Killing, and has also appeared in movies like David Fincher’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and the recent Safe House, which starred Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds.
In addition to RoboCop, the actor has numerous other upcoming projects on the way including Arthur & Lancelot, where he’ll be playing Lancelot alongside Game of Thrones star Kit Harington’s Arthur.
