$.99 Digital Comics: Which Titles To Get In The Joker’s April Fool’s Day Sale

MK2Fac3   |

Joker Sale

Comixology announced on Saturday that they would be offering a 3-day sale over April Fool’s weekend where the digital versions of several different Batman-related comic books featuring the horrible and sometimes hilarious antics of The Clown Prince of Crime, The Joker, would be discounted to only $.99 each.

The Joker is a character that’s probably on par in popularity as Batman and Superman, and he’s absolutely the most iconic villain from comics, and that’s with good reason. The Joker has been all over the map in his tenure as a super villain from murdering people with laughing, or tuberculosis gas depending on your interpretation, to stealing diamonds, to trying to copyright a fish, to becoming a detective in the wake of Bruce Wayne’s apparent death after he reformed himself into a total psychopath. Seriously, the Joker’s done it all, and that’s one of the reasons comic book fans love him so much. But there’s one thing to remember, he’s killed a lot of people. So while this weekend is the weekend for pranksters, let’s hope no one you know starts pranking anyone in the way the Joker would. Seriously.

Anyway, now that the disclaimer’s out of the way, let’s get to what Comixology is actually offering you in this deal, shall we?

First up, you’ve got the first appearance of The Joker in Batman #1, which is pretty much a must for this kind of sale. It’s important to remember that The Joker first appeared in the Golden Age, not the Silver Age, so he’s a stone cold murderer in this first appearance, the next issue offered is Silver Age, though with Batman #159, but I’m not going into a lot of detail with these, because there’s so much being offered. And I can’t say that, if you haven’t, you’re probably going to want to read all of these comics.

As I said, there are several comics being offered like The Joker’s appearances in Superman’s world with the Emperor Joker story, there’s also the classic Dennis O’Neill/Neal Adams’ The Joker’s Five Way Revenge, an issue from the Endgame portion of No Man’s Land, A Death In The Family, Under The (Red) Hood, The Joker’s story line from Gotham Central, Mad Love, The Laughing Fish, a few issues from Paul Dini’s run on Detective Comics, The Dark Knight Returns and so, so much more. And the majority of these comics are incredible.

So, maybe you don’t read that many comics or you’re not the biggest Batman fan (what’s wrong with you?), but you’ve been wanting to get to know the world a little bit better (good for you!), then this sale is definitely something you should check out. If you want my suggestions as a Batman fan, I’m going to suggest that you check out The Joker’s Five Way Revenge in Batman #251; The Laughing Fish in Detective Comics #475-476; A Death In The Family in Batman #426-429; Detective Comics #826; and Batman: The Dark Knight Returns #1-4. Again, that’s a suggestion for people that aren’t too familiar with the world who want to check this stuff out. All are pretty friendly to new readers with themes that don’t tie in too much to continuity, so check those out first if you haven’t already. But if you have a passing knowledge and aren’t really trying to expand too much in the world of Gotham, you can pretty much pick up any of these because any time The Joker squares off with Batman, it’s a fun time, but some of these story lines work better in the context of the series like Gotham Central and Batman and Robin. You should absolutely read those comics in this sale, but you should also read all of Gotham Central and the entirety of Grant Morrison’s run while you’re at it.

Well those are my suggestions, so do with them what you will, but remember that you only have through Monday to get these comics for their totally awesome price of 99 cents. So make sure you have your credit cards and security codes handy, because you’re going to need them when you go here at Comixology or to the comixology app on your portal device. Go forth now, my readers!

And yes, this is a real deal!!!!!!!!!!
