Doom Digest

Every day here at Doom HQ we receive tons of tips from our readers about really cool stuff from the world of geek, as well as promotional materials for new films, comic books, collectibles, and much more. While we do our best to bring you as much of it as possible, we don’t always have enough geek manpower available to cover it all on a daily basis. But we hate the idea of all of this really cool stuff wasting away in our inbox. How could we NOT cover it? Hence why we’ve resurrected our long-defunct column Bits Of Doom, now rebranded and revamped as Doom Digest, a collection of easily digestible bits of news, videos, photos, and other goodies.

Today: Community star Yvette Nicole Brown with Cap’s shield, Alex Ross Star Trek box art, Hellacious Acres trailer, new Joss Whedon book, Poe & Phillips graphic novel, a featurette on Creature, plus some Bits Of Doom.

Hellacious Acres: The Case of John Glass Trailer

The latest installment from the Bloody Disgusting Selects series is
Hellacious Acres: The Case of John Glass, a dark and humorous take on the post-apocalyptic genre, is now available on DVD, Video on Demand, and Digital Download. Check out the trailer here below.

Official Synopsis: A man suffering from amnesia wakes up in a desolate barn from a cryogenic freezer to be informed that the planet has been devastated by a world war and reduced to little habitability by a subsequent alien invasion. He is thrown into a military mission to help reestablish a livable atmosphere for what’s left of humanity. Soon enough he encounters more than he bargained for: aliens, crazy survivors, inadequate equipment and a pretty unhealthy dose of bad luck. Jam-packed with visual inventions and plot twists, this movie offers a dark and humorous take on the post-apocalyptic genre.

Poe & Phillips

With John Cusack’s new Edgar Allan Poe movie The Raven coming to theaters on April 27, 2012, the good folks over at Arcana want to remind you that they have some Poe of their own with Poe & Phillips, where Poe and fellow author H.P. Lovecraft team up for an adventure. You can buy the graphic novel in both print and digital formats, and check out some preview pages over at Arcana‘s site.

Creature – Featurette

The general opinion about the horror film Creature, which was recently released on DVD, is basically that it’s so bad it’s bad, but when I watched this behind-the-scenes featturette, I couldn’t help but wonder, what the hell went wrong?

Part 1 (above); also see Part 2 and Part 3, which is the making the Lockjaw monster.

Joss Whedon: The Complete Companion

On May 1, 2012, Titan Books will release Joss Whedon: The Complete Companion: The TV Series, the Movies, the Comic Books and More: The Essential Guide to the Whedonverse, a book which will cover every area of the Whedonverse through essays and interviews by over 40 contributors.
