Back in April it was first reported that Sharlto Copley, star of District 9 and The A-Team, was in talks to play the villain in Spike Lee’s remake of Oldboy. This week that casting was officially confirmed, and now the actor is adding more new projects to his to-do list.
It’s being reported that Copley has entered into negotiations to play the male lead in Maleficent, the Walt Disney retelling of the Sleeping Beauty fable that focuses on the evil villain. Angelina Jolie is set to star as Maleficent, while Copley would be playing King Stefan.
In addition to these two high-profile roles, Copley also just signed on to star in Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego’s Open Grave.
Copley just finished filming Elysium, the new movie from his District 9 director, Neill Blomkamp, which also stars Matt Damon and Jodie Foster.
Maleficent is currently scheduled for release on March 14, 2014.
