The Twilight Saga star Kellan Lutz, who played Emmett Cullen in the mega-hit movie franchise, has been cast to play Tarzan in an upcoming adaptation of the Edgar Rice Burroughs jungle-dwelling character for Constantin Films.
Lutz will be joined by Spencer Locke, the actress that played K-Mart in Constantin’s Resident Evil: Extinction and Resident Evil: Afterlife, who will take on the role of Jane Porter.
Instead of going live-action, the movie will instead take the computer animated performance capture route, and will also be in 3D…naturally.
The movie will also update Burroughs’ classic tale; Tarzan’s billionaire parents will be killed in a plane crash, while Jane is the daughter of an African guide who’s dedicated to preserving the jungle. The film’s villain will be the man that takes over Tarzan’s parents’ company when they die, who eventually brings a mercenary army to the jungle.
This will be Locke’s second turn in a performance capture role; the actress played Jenny in 2006’s Monster House.
Reinhard Klooss and Holger Tappe will direct, their previous efforts including the 2010 animated feature Animals United. Yoni Brenner and Jessica Postigo wrote the script along with Klooss.
