Every day here at Doom HQ we receive tons of tips from our readers about really cool stuff from the world of geek, as well as promotional materials for new films, comic books, collectibles, and much more. While we do our best to bring you as much of it as possible, we don’t always have enough geek manpower available to cover it all on a daily basis. But we hate the idea of all of this really cool stuff wasting away in our inbox. How could we NOT cover it? Hence why we’ve resurrected our long-defunct column Bits Of Doom, now rebranded and revamped as Doom Digest, a collection of easily digestible bits of news, videos, photos, and other goodies.

Today: Metallica performs the entire Black Album, a supercut of movies that could afford to use actual Beatles music, a short film about Canadian rock trio Rush, a video of MCA‘s opening lines from every Beastie Boys song, and a photo from Neil Gaiman‘s first-ever signing for Sandman, plus Bits Of Doom.

MCA’s Opening Lines From Every Beastie Boys Song

If you’re a fan of the Beastie Boys, then you’ll want to check out this video, which pays tribute Adam Yauch, aka MCA, who passed away last week. It cuts together all of MCA’s opening lines from every Beastie Boys song, and makes note of the album and song titles, too. So. Damn. Good.

Neil Gaiman’s First-Ever Sandman Signing

Jim Hanley’s Universe, a comic book shop in Staten Island, NY (a really cool one, by the way), posted a photo on Facebook from December 1988 of Neil Gaiman at a signing at their shop for Sandman #1. Gaiman commented on the black and white photo, which was of his first-ever signing for the comic, pointing out the stack of Sandman #1 issues in front of him that “nobody wanted to buy” and that there were only about a dozen people there for the event! Oh how times have changed.

Movies That Could Afford To Use Beatles Recordings

Inspired by Mad Men‘s recent use of a Beatles song, which the producers reportedly paid a quarter million dollars in licensing fees to use, Jest.com put together this supercut of a few movies that apparently could afford to include an actual Beatles song.

Metallica Plays Entire Black Album

Metallica kicked off their European tour in Prague, Czech Republic, on May 7th where they played the entire Black Album for the first time ever. They opened their set with 5 songs before launching into the songs from the Black Album, playing the entire album in reverse order. Brave Words has posted some fan-filmed footage of a few songs.

Inner Rush – A Short Film About Rush

Watch Inner Rush, a short film that’s a tribute to the Canadian rock band Rush, which includes appearances by the three band members — Geddy Lee, Neil Peart, Alex Lifeson — who’ve been rocking together since the early 1970s. The film was produced for the 2012 Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards; you can view photos of the band in formal attire at the event on Rush’s official Facebook page.
