Community has prided itself with superior comedic writing, strong character development, creative episodes (the “Remedial Chaos Theory” episode immediately comes to mind), and having fun with being self-aware. We’ve seen the study group dive into the world of stop-motion animation, have fun with the cult hit Doctor Who, and take pillow fights and blanket forts to a whole new level.
But the study group is about to venture into a world that sitcoms rarely venture into, the world of 8-bit reality. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the study group “become video game characters to help Pierce (Chevy Chase) stay in the one percent.” The trade has the first look at Abed, Pierce, Britta, Shirely, Annie, Troy, and Jeff as 8-bit characters, and you can take a look at their 8-bit forms in the two images below.
If the previous Community episodes are any indication, then this episode should do more than suffice the comedic needs of geeks everywhere, and if you haven’t heard of the show by now, please stop reading and add the show to your Netflix queue.
The new 8-bit episode is a part of the 3-episode finale that airs Thursday May 17, at 8PM. This episode airs first followed by 30 Rock, which is then followed by the final two new episodes of Community.
