I mean, it is possible… theoretically. They look forward to some more than others, I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of their pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of June 13th, 2012. Issues:

American Vampire: Lord of Nightmares #1 (DC Comics/Vertigo – $2.99) I don’t know what writer Scott Snyder has done to be teamed up with such a stable of amazing artists, but I’m willing to bet it had something to do with a visit to a crossroads at midnight and a metaphorical deal with the devil. And by devil I mean Robot Devil. And by metaphorical I mean get your coat. What was I talking about again? Oh yeah, Scott Snyder’s unholy deal to be partnered with some of the best artists in comics. Joining his infernal collection this week is Dustin Nguyen, who is handling art duties for this second mini-series spinning out of American Vampire. Nguyen is an amazing artist with a thick, painterly style that is going to work great on this series. The story picks up from the first AV mini-series, with Felicia Book traveling post-WWII Europe with her adopted son until the organization she used to work for brings her back in to track down an ancient vampire. I’m behind on the main series, but I’m not overly concerned about that, since I was behind when I read the first mini-series in issues. This is just a side project that follows some of the interesting characters that Snyder doesn’t have the space for in his main story. And with Nguyen on art, I know that I will love the living heck out of this. This comic is sure to make my dreams come true.

Fantastic Four #607 (Marvel Comics – $2.99) We know that Jonathan Hickman is ending his run sometime soon, but between this series and FF, I think we’re still due for roughly 6,213 more issues from him before the end of his run. Which is a good thing because he’s still writing the crap out of the series, and I kind of don’t ever want him to leave. Hickman seems to have finished his big story a few issues ago, but I think that was just the first ending, and he still has something big in store for us. Hickman sets his sight on the Black Panther in this issue, and with Wakanda being all high tech, I can’t wait to see what he does with the setting. I know it’s going to end at some point, so I’ll just have to enjoy every issue from Hickman that I get. If you insist on knowing my bliss, I’ll tell you what it is: any comic written by Jonathan Hickman. That what it is.

Dancer #2 (Image Comics – $3.50) I did not know what to expect when I picked up the first issue of this series, but it was suggested to me as a good read by WGillis, so I picked it up. What I got was a cool espionage story about a deadly assassin and his girlfriend with a good sci-fi twist thrown in at the end. Writer Nathan Edmonson has made a name for himself writing these kinds of thrillers on books like Who is Jake Ellis? Dancer has a ton of action and is another Image book that is not what you would normally expect out of a comics, or at least is a kind of comic that we don’t see too much. The art by Nic Klein looks great as well and he has a great handle on the action. If you’re looking for an exciting series this week, just look into my private eyes and I’ll tell you that it’s Dancer. I’m watching you.

Trades:

Avenging Spider-Man: My Friends Can Beat Up Your Friends (Marvel Comics – $24.99) First off, how awesome is the title to this first collection of Avenging Spider-Man? That may be reason enough to buy this. But there are also some pretty good comic stories beneath the cover. Writer Zeb Wells, who had a good run as part of the Amazing Spider-Man brain trust when it was coming out three times a month a few years ago, returns to the character and brings back the same sense of fun that he brought back to the character. Wells understands how to write a humorous Spidey, but also understands the pathos that goes along with him. Avenging Spider-Man is a new version of the old Spider-Man Team-Up book, and has the wallcrawler joining forces with other characters who he doesn’t always get to hang out with. This volume has him fighting against the moloids with the Red Hulk, taking some guff from Hawkeye, and writing a comic book with Captain America. There is a lot of great art on this series as well, with the likes of Joe Madureira, Leinil Yu, and Greg Land. These five issues collected here were tons of fun, and if you are a Spidey fan and you missed out on these, give them a look. Especially if you’re a rich girl, because you clearly have enough money to buy more comics.
