FINALLY!!! Someone does a comic based on the hit Bon Jovi song, Bad Medicine!!! Wait… what? OK, so it’s NOT an adaptation of the song, BUT what Bad Medicine #2 IS is a very unique comic. And a very entertaining one, at that.

Although I hate comparing comics to other things, writers Nunzio DeFilipps and Christina Weir are going to force me to. While this book goes above and beyond the call of duty to not be ANYTHING like what’s on the stands today, I’m going to say that, for lack of a better term, it’s CSI crossed with Twin Peaks with a dash of sci-fi thrown in. Again, this is NOTHING like anything that’s out there today, and I think that’s why I liked it so much. Very original and compelling.

If you didn’t grab a copy of Bad Medicine #1 Free Comic Book Day issue, don’t worry, another version will hit stands the same day as this one. There’s some real humor in this book and it features an ensemble case, which I love, and you’re actually not quite sure just who the main characters are, but that’s OK, because all of the characters are written so well. There’s a couple huge chunks of mystery thrown in for good measure and it all adds up to a very well written issue. The only thing that I was disappointed with was how it ended, which went in a way that I really did’t want it to go in. Although, based on the first two issues, I’ll definitely pick up the third issue to find out what happens and what direction the book takes.

Artist Christopher Mitten is perfectly at home on this title. He is THE man to draw this book, that’s for sure. His style lends itself greatly to the overall tone and feel of the comic, making you right at home in this creepy, funny, and entertaining universe. Although there is some violence, he has a way of making it look not SO realistic that it comes across as gratuitous, yet he gives it a very serious tone. Another great thing about Mitten is that he doesn’t skimp on backgrounds, which is a pet peeve of mine, in fact they’re quit detailed and fantastic. The city-scapes especially are gorgeous. I just can’t say enough good things about his art, in many ways, it makes the book.

Looking for something different? You’ve found it! Hopefully you did pick up the Free Comic Book Day edition of this book, but if you didn’t, you get to read TWO issues in the same day! That’s awesome!!! Honestly, I can’t recommend this book highly enough. It’s a super fun read, that will have you thinking about the book long after you’ve put it down. And in today’s comic market, that’s really saying something.
