Frankenweenie

This summer, audiences didn’t seem to show much affection towards Tim Burton‘s Dark Shadows, and rightfully so, since the film was critically panned. Now that that film is behind him, Burton is now turning his attention to Frankenweenie.

The teaser trailer was released back in March, and now a new trailer for the film has arrived online, giving a more in depth look at the story. You can see the new trailer below.

Based on Burton’s 1984 short film of the same name, Frankenweenie centers on a young boy who brings his dog back from the dead via the miracle of science.

While the story may seem to mirror that of the classic Victorian novel, the trailer shows that the film will have more depth. We now know that the movie will also explore the consequences of the boy’s actions. Those familiar dark and quirky tones that Burton is known for is painted everywhere in this trailer, but it feels like this is where Burton’s most comfortable at.

I especially love that the film will be in black and white. And when added with the child-like silliness, and nods to Frankenstein, Frankenweenie will surely be fun for everyone.

Here’s the official synopsis:

From creative genius Tim Burton (“Alice in Wonderland,” The Nightmare Before Christmas”) comes “Frankenweenie,” a heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life–with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor’s fellow students, teachers and the entire town all learn that getting a new “leash on life” can be monstrous.

Frankenweenie features the voices of Winona Ryder, Martin Short, Catherine O’Hara, and Martin Landau.

It opens in 3D and IMAX 3D on October 5th.
