Fox went with an unconventional idea with promoting their upcoming film The Life of Pi. Rather than release a traditional trailer, the studio moved forward with releasing a variety of small clips from the film in front of their movies like Prometheus. We’ve also seen a few pieces of promotional artwork for the film.
Now The Life of Pi has a full-length trailer, and it’s nothing short of amazing. Check it out below.
I love how there is a lack of dialogue in this trailer. It allows the sounds and the visuals of the film to speak for themselves. Pi’s body language and facial gestures also give way for a different kind of chemistry that we rarely see in a film. There’s a sense of magic that’s also in this trailer which makes it even feel like one is in a dream-like state.
Family has been one of the many central themes that director Ang Lee (Brokeback Mountain and Hulk) uses in his films, and we will see just how important that theme is when Pi attempts to build a new family with only a few surviving zoo animals.
In the film, Pi and a couple of zoo animals (hyena, zebra, orangutan, and a Bengal tiger after a shipwreck) are nearly stranded in the sea, when the ship they were on sinks.
Given the nature of these kinds of films, the cast is relatively small. Suraj Sharma plays as the titular character and he is supported by Tobey Maguire, Irrfan Khan, and Adil Hussain.
The Life of Pi will hit theaters in 3D on November 21.
