Double Jumpers #2, just like the previous issue, is a LOT of fun. Yes, it caters to the “geek” crowd, maybe a little too much at times, but it’s still a great read that’ll have you cracking a smile at least a half dozen times before you’ve finished the issue.
Writer Dave Dwomch doesn’t let up in this second issue, he makes it as fast paced and entertaining as the first. While this book is 99 percent humor, it’s got some heart to it as well. In this issue, the characters really open themselves up and you see there faults, strengths, and you actually start to FEEL for them. More than just a laughable “I can’t wait to see how they screw up next,” Dwonch really puts some thought into where these people are going and where they’ve been. Some really good human story mixed with a TON of humor.
The art by Bill Blankenship in this book is just pure fun. 100% fun. He lays out a great mix of fantasy and real world scenery, and conveys the fish out of water element without going over the top. His style is very cartoony and it clearly fits this book like a glove. He also uses some very intertesting close up panel choices and they pay off really well. Nice, clean art that makes the book. I couldn’t see another type of style used in this comic.
I highly recommend this book, and I highly recommend you let your comic shop know you want it, as it’s possible some retailers won’t be carrying it, which is a shame. It’s a fun comic and a nice change of pace from anything else that’s on the shelves right now.
