2012 was a pretty successful year for Universal. The Bourne Legacy was a legitimate hit at the box office and the Seth MacFarlane comedy Ted was a smashing success. And because of their success, Universal wants to see more from those two films.

THR has learned that the studio is commissioning the development of sequels for both films. They also confirmed that Jeremy Renner would indeed be brought back to reprise Aaron Cross for a new Bourne movie, which could possibly lead up to that crossover with Jason Bourne, the film everyone is waiting for. Though that wasn’t confirmed, NBCUniversal CEO Steve Burke said that we can expect to see another Bourne film get developed as soon as Fast Six runs its theatrical course.

As for the Ted sequel, Burke has told his team that he wants to do a follow-up as soon as possible, which isn’t a huge surprise since MacFarlane’s directorial debut was a successful one. Granted, a lot of the humor in the film was very similar his Family Guy animated series, but it proved that as long as you have comedy and character development, you can have a great film.

Though the studio isn’t well known for their animation titles, Burke said that their target is to release a new animation film every 18 months or so. Eventually the studio would like to release two animated features a year.
