KISS #4 features the epic conclusion to the World Without Heroes story arc, and when IDW says epic they mean EPIC!!! It’s everything you want it to be and just a little bit more.

To sum up, in this story arc, we basically have KISS barbarians, which in and of itself, is pretty freakin’ cool. What makes it even MORE awesome is that writer Tom Waltz does a fantastic job telling the story! In just a few issues, he’s given the four “civilian identities” a LOT of character for the reader to absorb. Not too much, though, that it draws awesome from the KISS warriors. We get a little more of the Destroyer and Elder, and more of She, but the meat of the story is KISS’ battle with an out of control dragon and trying to save their village and their world.

VERY compelling story, the pace is almost frantic, where you don’t really get to catch your breath until the last couple of pages, and only then you get a couple of pages until the last page sends the book into overdrive. All in all, I’m SO impressed with what the creative team(s) are doing on this book. Each issue is completely different and fresh, you don’t stay in one place long enough to get comfortable let alone bored, and it’s just some really tight story telling. This is a VERY well put together comic that EVERYONE should be reading!

Casey Maloney draws like a rock star! OK, I don’t know if that’s true, because most rock stars aren’t known for their drawing. But, let’s just say, he draws very well in this issue. They’ve gotten the PERFECT artist to draw the “barbarian” KISS story, and that is blatently obvious here. Besides the main story, which he does a fantastic job with, I’m impressed that when he has to draw “out of context” pages with Destroyer, She and Elder, his style changes and those pages mesh with what previous artists did in earlier issues. Terrific artistic continuity here.

Another GREAT issue by IDW, one that, I’m sure, makes the band proud! I have to go on record as saying that if you aren’t reading the Liner Notes in the back of each issue, you’re really missing out. This is the KISS comic that every company that’s published a KISS comic WISHES they put out! And OH MY GOD I can’t wait to review the next issue!!!
