Doctor Who Series 7 continues in a story told from the perspective of the Ponds, the Earth has become plagued by the mysterious appearance of black cubes across the planet. The Doctor (Matt Smith) begins an investigation into the cubes, with the assistance of some old friends with UNIT, only to find… nothing!

The cubes offer no clues to their appearance, but the Doctor can’t shake the feeling that they represent a grave danger to humanity…

During TARDISblend 55, we discuss the penultimate Pond story in the Doctor Who universe entitled The Power Of Three, told completely from the perspective of Amy (Karen Gillan) and Rory (Arthur Darvill). We also take a look at the guest appearances in this episode, with Kate Stewart (Jemma Redgrave) fulfilling the role of the daughter of Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart (played by Nicholas Courtney in the Classic Doctor Who series), and the surprising and fun cameos that showed up as well.

Aside from the Brigadier connection, we also examine some of the other Classic Doctor Who references in this episode, including the mention of a classic villain we hope will actually return on screen someday. And finally, as always, we take a look at some comments from our listeners, and provide some Classic Doctor Who recommendations to our listners.

All this and more on the latest TARDISblend!

Presented by Greg Davies (cGt2099 from The Social Blend Podcast) and geek journalist Tom Cheredar, TARDISblend is a podcast that takes a look at the ongoing adventures in the Doctor Who Universe – as Matt Smith makes his journey as the Eleventh Doctor!

  1. Hi Guys, It’s your man in Havana, the Tin Dog ;)

As you said in the last podcast, the introduction of Kate Stuart!!! Mz Redgrave (sibling of British Film Aristocracy), God bless you Sir Micheal, gave that character Real gravitas. She’s gotta be a must, down the road.
On the whole, yes a 7 out of 10 episode, but the Shakri are too good to be a throw-away, hopefully this is a new race to be challenged in the future.

(Let me take a minute here just to say. How COOL has this show got?
when the likes of the Redgraves, Diana Rigg, Dalton etc and all of the Royal Shakespear Company are queueing up at the door to do a cameo)
So lets keep all of our criticisms in perspective here boys cos its all BRILLIANT! really.

I digress, So this time next week Greg, we will know if your Wibbly wobbly theory was correct. I think that you’ve definitly got something there though.
I agreed with all who said that the pay off money shot (everything getting soniced and fixed) in Cubed was a bit of a let down, as the journey geitimg there was sooo good.

Alas, we run into the same ol’ problem as Mercy.
    Blockbuster plot-line v Time ? There is something special about 2 parters….
(a cliff-hanger. an extra 45 minutes to “flesh out” the characterisation and plot, I hear you say) that Moffat has body-swerved this season, whoops! I mean series. I went all American there, did you notice? ;) because of criticism about series 6 being too complex. But 2 parters serve a valuable function. I think that it is wrong to forgo the 90 minute format as they too can be Blockbusters.

And finally, the Jackson/Gayman Spectacular YES, YES, YES, YES, YES!
i just know that this 50th thang is gonna be FANTASTIC.
Well it had better be, as I’ve waited 49 years for it ;)
Episode 1, 1963 at my daddy’s knee. Oh the good ol’ days…..(Old Fanboy)
So its bina long time a cumin’

Anyway guys, hope you enjoy number 5 and remember,

    “We’ll always have Manhattan”

  3. Bye bye Ponds.
I felt that both Amy and Rory served their purpose extremely well over the past two and a half years, but their final episode, for all it was brilliantly shot and acted, I felt that the “over-hype” of this farewell spioled my enjoyment of the Angels take Manhattan.
Hopefully, in the future, the Weeping Angels take a long sabatical and the rest of series 7 storylines are not too driven by “DarlekGirl”.
But Rose’s heartbreaking farewell still remains at the top of the “Sob-Factor” for me.
    C u @ Xmas lads
