Production for Edgar Wright‘s The World’s End, the third installment of the Blood and Ice Cream trilogy, has already begun. Wright reunites with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in a comedy that involves heavy drinking and a possible apocalyptic event. Earlier this year, the film added Paddy Considine and Rosamund Pike to the cast. Now we are learning that two more actors will be joining them as well.
Focus Features announced that Martin Freeman (Shaun of the Dead, The Hobbit) and Eddie Marsan (Sherlock Holmes) will be joining Pegg, Frost, Considine, and Pike. According to Empire, Freeman and Marsan’s characters will be part of a group of friends who try to complete an epic pub crawl they did 20 years ago. No word yet on who Pike will be playing, but it is assumed that she could play a love interest to one of the characters, presumably Pegg’s character.
Aside from the ambiguous plot-revealing title, there is no confirmation on how the world will end in The World’s End. Word is the apocalyptic event of Wright’s choice is an invasion.
Here is the official plot synopsis:
20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.
Freeman can next be seen in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit, while Marsan’s next American role is in Bryan Singer’s Jack the Giant Killer. So do you like these new additions to the cast?
