Weekend Update and Baby Mama fans, get ready, because you’re about to see Tina Fey and Amy Poehler share the screen once again. But this isn’t for a film or a Parks & Recreation and 30 Rock crossover; they are teaming up to host next year’s Golden Globes. The duo will replace Ricky Gervais, who has been hosting the Globes for the past three years.
This is what Paul Telegdy, President, Alternative and Late Night Programming, NBC Entertainment, had to say about the announcement:
“Having both Tina Fey and Amy Poehler on board to host this year’s festivities is a major coup. Tina and Amy have a proven chemistry and comedic timing from their many years together on SNL to their successful co-starring roles in Baby Mama.”
As previously mentioned, the duo are best known for keeping us up-to-date on the week’s news on Saturday Night Live‘s popular “Weekend Update” segment from 2004-2006, and they reunited for the surrogate mother comedy Baby Mama. The hiring comes after it was announced that Seth MacFarlane would host the Academy Awards next year. While MacFarlane’s hiring will no doubt bring an edge to the Academy Awards, the Golden Globes has always been a more lax awards ceremony, so Fey and Poehler’s comedy will fit right in.
Having Fey and Poehler host the ceremony will be a nice change, especially after Gervais hosted the Globes for the past three years. Given the fantastic chemistry between the two, we could be in for quite a show.
NBC will air the Golden Globes on Sunday, January 13, 2013, starting at 8pm.
So what do you guys think about the two hosting the awards show?
