Sam Claflin, Douglas Booth & More Also Testing For Harry Osborn Role In ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’

Sam Claflin

It’s become very clear that the Osborn family and corporation will be a major factor The Amazing Spider-Man 2. We previously posted that Brady Corbet (Tetro), Alden Ehrenreich (Beautiful Creatures), and Dane Dehaan (Chronicle) were up for the role of Harry Osborn, son of Norman Osborn and heir to OsCorp.

Now you can add Sam Claflin, Eddie Redmayne, Boyd Holbrook, and Douglas Booth to the mix as they will also be in the running for the same role. These seven actors will test for the role in the coming days. Filming is expected to begin sometime early next year.

It also looks like the character itself is going through a couple of changes. We previously reported that the Harry role had been rewritten from a character with an athletic and strong personality to someone who is dark and edgy. However, The Hollywood Reporter has word that the character will revert back to the former.

So who could get it?

Well seeing as Holbrook and Booth aren’t exactly household names yet, it’s hard to imagine seeing either of them get the role. Booth played opposite Miley Cyrus in the high-tech romancer LOL and will star as one of Russell Crowe’s sons in Darren Aronofsky’s Noah. Holbrook had a starring role in Milk and Hatfield and McCoys and will appear in the new adaptation of Stephine Meyer’s extraterrestrial romancer The Host.

Claflin and Redmayne aren’t exactly household names either, but they have had their share of roles in some pretty big films. Claflin starred in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Snow White and the Huntsman, and will appear alongside Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Redmayne had a starring role in My Week With Marilyn and stars in Tom Hooper’s adaptation of Les Miserables.

No matter who gets the role, he will join Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, and new comers Shailene Woodley and Jamie Foxx.

It should be interesting to see how the Osborns factor into The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and The Amazing Spider-Man 3. For one thing we never got to see Norman or Harry in the first film, but OsCorp did play a huge role in it. What ties does OsCorp have with Peter Parker’s parents and how much of that conspiracy will we see in the next two installments?

Who would you like to see take the role of Harry Osborn?

  1. I mean I’m happy with anyone who is mildly attractive and can pull off my harry as well as Garfield can play Peter Parker…I’m still upset about Jamie Foxx as Electro, maybe it’s just because I grew up on In Living Color but I will only ever see him as Wanda…

  2. I understand the need for Green Goblin but I’m kind of getting sick of seeing them since they (“Goblin”, in some form or another) appeared in all 3 of Raimi’s flicks. Hope they do something unique with Harry. It’s like seeing Lex Luthor as the main baddie in all of the Superman movies when there are loads of other interesting villains to play with.
