The female lead for the first Captain America movie, Captain America: The First Avenger, will apparently not be returning for the sequel, Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Hayley Atwell, who played Peggy Carter in the original 1940s-set movie, confirmed in a recent interview that she would not be returning for the sequel. The movie will take place present day, but it was thought that there would be flashbacks and such used.
Atwell previously had stated that she was not able to speak on whether or not she would be back, leading some to suspect she would at least be making a cameo, either as a much older woman or in said flashbacks. Now it appears that filmmakers decided not to include the character in the sequel.
Then again, it’s never all that shocking to see someone not expected to be in a movie appear anyway, even if very briefly.
Actresses rumored to be in the mix for the female lead in Captain America: The Winter Soldier include Anna Kendrick, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Allison Brie, and Felicity Jones.
The sequel is currently slated for release on April 4, 2014.
