Back in September, Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feigestated that he had a couple of ideas for a Hulk movie. A solo film for Marvel’s green muscle bound hero has had some mild success, but for the most part the hero has been the most difficult to adapt, mostly because Marvel runs the risk of being repetitive in terms of what the Hulk will be doing.
Feige told MTV that Hulk was worthy enough of having his own film, but it was just a matter of finding the right story. Now a report from Latino Review says that Marvel has some big plans for the Hulk. WARNING, spoilers do follow, so if you don’t want to know about what Marvel’s plans has in store for the Hulk, then I suggest you hit that back button. But if you want to know, then hit the jump.
Last Fall, Feige pointed out to two possible Hulk story arcs that could fit in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, here’s what he told MTV last year:
I don’t think there’s a lot that we couldn’t do someday, as the cinematic universe continues to grow and expand and get as big as the comic book universe. ”Planet Hulk’ is a cool story, ‘World War Hulk’ is a cool story. I think there’s pitfalls of continuity-overload, and mythology getting so dense that it almost collapses in on itself [with those cosmic projects]. It happens every few decades or so in the comics. Apart from that, I’d say everything is on the table.
Now it seems like those two story arcs will be a part of Phase 2 and Phase 3. Latino Review is reporting that the Hulk will get his own solo film that heavily ties in to the events of The Avengers 2 and The Avengers 3. According to them, during the third act or a post-credits scene in The Avengers 2, Hulk will be shot into space by Marvel’s version of The Illuminati, because they decide that he is a dangerous threat to Earth.
This would lead into his solo film, which would be based on Planet Hulk, where the Hulk’s spaceship crash lands onto a planet where he would become a gladiator who rises up to become king. The Avengers 3 would follow the World War Hulk story arc, where the Hulk, along with a few gladiators, returns to Earth seeking revenge on those responsible for his banishment.
This news comes on the heels of Dr. Strange and Ant-Man being confirmed as characters to appear in Phase 3. In the comics, Dr. Strange, along with Captain America and Iron Man, is a part of the Illuminati. Other notable members include Black Bolt, Mr. Fantastic, Namor, Black Panther, and Professor X. It’s very unlikely that we’ll see both Mr. Fantastic and Professor X in Phase 3 since they are characters who belong to Fox’s Marvel properties, but this could mean that we could Black Bolt and Black Panther added to the Marvel Cinematic Universe character roster. Of course that is just speculation.
But what do you think of all of this? Are the two Hulk storylines worthy of being a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
