Metallica - SF Giants

Metallica, the venerable stalwart metalhead ensemble, will show their unabashed solidarity for their favorite baseball team, The San Francisco Giants, in their hometown on Friday, May 3, 2013 at AT&T Park in San Francisco as they will not only sing what is sure to be a bone-crunching version of The National Anthem, but will also throw out the first pitch as well.

The entire evening, dubbed “Metallica Night” (the first of its kind), will sport Metallica-themed entertainment, and fans who purchase a Special Event Ticket Package will received a special edition baseball cap which showcases the familiar Metallica and Giants logos done up in the team’s familiar orange-and-black colors.

Special event tickets for this game go on sale today, Saturday, February 9 at 8 AM PST here: http://atmlb.com/XoA9Po.

Here’s what the band posted on their official site:

We’re psyched to be teaming up with the World Series champs for the first ever Metallica Night at AT&T Park in San Francisco on Friday, May 3! When the Giants take on their arch-rivals the Los Angeles Dodgers, we’ll be on hand that night to kick off the game with the National Anthem and first pitch, joining the orange and black fanatics with Metallica vibes and shenanigans throughout the evening to cheer on the team for the first home Dodger game of the season.

Special event tickets for the game go on sale this Saturday morning, February 9, at 8AM PST here: http://atmlb.com/XoA9Po. The special event ticket package includes a limited edition Metallica/Giants hat with a portion of the ticket sales donated to the Bill Graham Foundation, which strives to give grants in the area of music, the arts, and education, while also supporting social work, environmental protection, and spiritual and compassionate projects in our community. Met Club members should log in to the site and watch their e-mail for details about how they may purchase tickets to the game early.

The Giants won the World Series last year and have remained one of the more legendary clubs in the game’s rich history, having employed Hall of Fame players such as Willie Mays and pitcher Juan Marichal at one time. Controversial player Barry Bonds also did a long stint there, even eventually breaking the great Hank Aaron’s All-Time Home Run record, a record which still stands today, although shrouded in doubt and division due to Bonds’ alleged steroid usage. But regardless of that, Giants fans are some of the most rabid in the game, and loyalty has run nosebleed high for the team ever since they moved out of New York and planted their new foundations in San Francisco back in 1958.

And Metallica are also one of the team’s staunchest allies, hence the special event coming up. The game will be against the arch-enemy Los Angeles Dodgers, a team who also has a special legacy for baseball fans and the history of the game, and also left New York (Brooklyn as a matter of fact) in 1958 too, but is a decidedly different team all together. The fact that both clubs share space in The National League has created a rivalry of the bitterest kind, as fans and foes alike have special reverence for their respective clubs, be it positive or negative, which ultimately created a splintering between the two teams and its fans akin to a Hatfield’s and McCoy’s showdown. It should make, along with Metallica’s involvement, a night to remember in the San Francisco Bay Area indeed.

Some of the ticket gate proceeds will go to funding The Bill Graham Foundation, named after the late concert promoter who showcased acts ranging the musical spectrum from Miles Davis to Jimi Hendrix, back in the old Fillmore West and East in the late 60s-early 1970s. The foundation supports social work, supplies grants for music, arts and education, environmental protection, and spiritual and compassionate projects in the community.
