The Night's Watch Image

There’s nothing at all exciting or luxurious about the Night’s Watch, the men who protect Westeros from the dangers that lie beyond the Wall in George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” book series and the hit HBO series Game of Thrones. They leave their friends and families behind. They swear never to take another woman, father no children, and own any land. They live among constant ice and snow. And it will remain so until the day that they die. Only then will their service end.

Many think taking the Black comes with great honor, but they soon find out that most of the brothers of the Watch are thieves and murderers and rapists—a rather unpleasant wake-up call. Still, what they do is crucially important to the protection of Westeros from the White Walkers and Wildlings and various other dangers, and they’re always looking for new members to take the oath and swear fealty to the Night’s Watch.

Do YOU have what it takes to be a brother (or sister)…and perhaps someday even a ranger? Continue below now to find out how you can take the Night’s Watch oath online, and add your voice to the many others who will join!

In celebration of the upcoming release of Game of Thrones season 2 on Blu-ray and DVD on February 19th, a website was created called My Watch Begins.

While there, you can follow Jon Snow (Kit Harington) himself as he leads you in reciting the Night’s Watch oath, basically like a really serious karaoke session. You’ll then have the option to listen to your recording and decide whether you want to keep it or re-record it.

Here’s the full oath:

Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the fire that burns against the cold, the light that brings the dawn, the horn that wakes the sleepers, the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night’s Watch, for this night and all nights to come.

When completed, your recording will become part of a “chorus” of people who have also taken the oath. You can listen to it with all of the other voices, or you can single out only your voice and share your oath with friends via various social media options.

You’ll also be able to listen to the featured voices of other cast members and celebrities who have taken the oath as well.

So if you have what it takes to take the Black and join the Night’s Watch, head to My Watch Begins now and add your voice!
