Hugh Laurie Stars In Brad Bird's Tomorrowland

With George Clooney signed on to play the lead protagonist in Brad Bird‘s Tomorrowland, the Damon Lindelof-penned sci-fi flick is still shrouded in mystery, but it’s been speculated that the film has to deal with UFOs and other extraterrestrial phenomenas. Disney historian Jim Hill theorizes that the Tomorrowland has a lot to do with Walt Disney’s involvement in informing the public of the existence of UFOs, a project called Project Blue Book. It’s still a theory, but given that popular culture tells us the government likes to impede these alien speculations, it makes a lot of sense. And now it looks like the film may have found its protagonist.

According to THR, House‘s Hugh Laurie is in talks to “serve as the movie’s antagonist,” but did not reveal any other detailed description as to who or what this antagonist does. Some say that Laurie’s role will be that of a government agent who will put a stop to Disney’s plans to release the alien information to the public.

Again this is all unconfirmed news, but it does make a lot of sense given that the inspiration for the Tomorrowland film was based on Lindelof’s research into the contents of the 1952 box. One content that everyone was particularly interested in was that of Amazing Stories magazine that was buried under envelopes and photos of Disney. The cover shows a man flying dressed in sci-fi fashion with a jetpack strapped to his back.

Further research done by Hill only adds to that speculation as to what Tomorrowland is really about. But if it is true that it is about Disney’s quest to reveal the truth about aliens, and how the government stopped him, it makes a lot of sense that the antagonist is a government agent.

Disney is set to release Bird’s Tomorrowland on December 19, 2014.

So what do you think? Is Laurie a good fit for the villain?
