Each of the films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has their own theme to it. Thor is fantastical, Iron Man is technological, Hulk is beastial, and Captain America is political. So it isn’t that surprising to hear that the Anthony and Joe Russo-directed Captain America sequel will be a political-actioner.
In an interview with Variety, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed that Captain America: The Winter Soldier will be a political thriller. He also responded to some of the criticisms of the superhero genre being a fad.
“If it is a fad, it’s one that lasts 30 to 40 years, as the Western did, because each one is so different. There’s an opportunity to graft almost sub-genres onto them. Our first Captain America film was a World War II picture, and the next is a political thriller. They all have their own textures and patinas, and that’s what is exciting about it.”
We’ve known that the Captain America sequel would take place after the events of The Avengers, but this is the first time we are getting anything resembling a plot description. If you recall, the montage towards the end of The Avengers had a Senator asking for The Avengers to take responsibility and requesting that they make their whereabouts public. Perhaps this could be tied into the plot of Captain America: The Winter Soldier?
Captain America: The Winter Soldier stars Chris Evans, Emily VanCamp, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Scarlett Johansson, Frank Grillo, Cobie Smulders,Toby Jones and Samuel L. Jackson. The film opens in theaters on April 4, 2014.

I hope the rumors about this being the S.H.I.E.L.D. movie are true too.
