An international trailer has been released for Star Trek Into Darkness, J.J. Abrams‘ follow-up to his 2009 reboot Star Trek, and it’s a dark one!
You can watch the new teaser trailer here below.
See now, for the U.S., we get all the campy stuff and fast cut-away action; oversees, they get the dark scifi drama version for the film, which sees Kirk and his crew of the Enterprise on a mission to stop Benedict Cumberbatch’s mysterious character, John Harrison. In the international trailer, we learn more about Harrison, who everyone speculates will end up really being the famed villain Khan (think Marion Cotillard’s character in The Dark Knight Rises).
Speaking of Dark Knight Rises, there’s a touch of Bane in this new Star Trek and mass destruction. I think once Cumberbatch is done walking over all those cold corpses, he’ll want to just watch the world burn. From the way it looks, Harrison can’t be Khan unless somehow in this alternate Star Trek universe, Khan worked for the Federation or was undercover for it. Also, J.J. Abrams’ stamp is all over this one – there’s a lot of Cloverfield in there and wait, did someone hit the Inception button? As I mentioned in regards to the film’s second teaser trailer, there’s plenty of Star Wars in there, too – matter of fact, this time, I think it would help if Uhura got out and pushed.
Star Trek Into Darkness, which stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Alice Eve, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, and Simon Pegg, opens in theaters everywhere on May 17, 2013.
After the crew of the Enterprise find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.
