“Rule number one: no touching of the hair or face. AND THAT’S IT!”
Remember that scene from the original Anchorman?
The Atlanta, GA set of Anchorman: The Legend Continues has been overflowing with highly recognizable celebrities in the past few days for the filming of a massive battle between network news personalities that promises to dwarf the one from the original movie, at least in terms of sheer scope and star power.
The first Anchorman featured a fierce and hilarious street brawl between the Channel 4 News Team – lead anchor Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell), field reporter Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd), sportscaster Champ Kind (David Koechner), and weatherman Brick Tamland (Steve Carrell) – and a host of their television rivals played the likes of Vince Vaughn, Luke Wilson, Tim Robbins, and Ben Stiller. The battle was glorious and rife with quotable non sequiturs and loony sight gags, and it has enhanced the movie’s growing cult following in the near-decade since it was originally released. Naturally the sequel has to go bigger for the inevitable redux, but the question of if it will be funnier remains to be seen.
Regardless, The Legend Continues has attracted a literal army of high-powered acting talent to take the original anchorman rumble up more than a few notches. This time around they’ve even thrown a few anchor ladies into the mix. Look children, why here’s Tina Fey and Amy Poehler looking as lovely and amazing as they can possibly be.
Oh, did I mention they’re both beating the crap out of Sacha Baron Cohen?
Looks like Cohen got the upper hand in this shot (and his mustache looks fantastic).
Here’s John C. Reilly – dressed up in full Civil War Confederate officer garb – along with….Liam Neeson?!
And here we have a shot of Jim Carrey, flanked by men wearing suits and sporting hockey gloves and sticks. I assume their end of the conflict has something to do with sports reporting. Whatever the case may be, this is awesome.
This would be a minotaur. That’s comedy, dear friends.
An out-of-context shot of Kirsten Dunst. Very interesting.
Finally, I give you a pair of shots of the Channel 4 News Team gearing up for battle (once director Adam McKay calls action), including Carrell carrying some top-notch weaponry.
I just have one question: Where did they get their suits from? The….toilet store?
Vaughn, who played rival anchor Wes Mantooth in the original, is said to be returning for the fray as well. Superstar musician Kanye West was also spotted on the set wearing an era-appropriate Afro, but no photos were snapped of him taking part in the action, but there were a lot of shots of him drinking a soda and talking on his cell. Way to prioritize, worthless paparazzi! Thus it remains to be seen if West makes it into the movie or not. It would be interesting to see if the man finally reveals himself to have a sense of humor after all. I wonder if he finally understood that “fish sticks” joke.
Anchorman: The Legend Continues (still not happy about that title, but if it’s final I’ll live with it) opens on December 20, 2013.
Now here’s a shot of Ron Burgundy wrestling a shark. And why? Because Ron Burgundy is the balls.
