Have you ever wondered how Invincible might taste? Weird question, sure, but Invincible #104 might just have an answer for you””whether you want one or not. What’s on the menu at Image Comics today? Robert Kirkman and crew serve up a delightful course of relational quandaries topped off with cannibalistic Invincibles from other dimensions!

Way back when, Angstrom Levy gathered an army of Invincibles from across the multi-verse to kill Mark Grayson. After their defeat, the remaining Invincible duplicates were all stranded in another dimension, forced to survive on their own. In present day, Levy continues to hold Eve hostage, ensuring that he’ll kill her just as soon as Invincible returns; however, even unable to use her powers, Eve makes a daring attempt to ensure that no harm come to her or her unborn child. Meanwhile, Invincible finds himself stuck in the dimension that the other Invincibles had been stranded in and what he finds are just two survivors: a deranged cannibal version of himself who has seemingly eaten many of the others and a remorseful Invincible who is bent on vengeance against his flesh-eating counterpart and Angrstrom Levy himself.

With this issue, Kirkman has provided a couple of very unique factors unseen before in the Invincible Universe. I can’t really give away too much as both circumstances could very well have lasting impacts on this series and may set up an enthralling new arc. I said it last month, Angstrom Levy is quite possibly my favorite villain that Invincible has ever faced, and if I’m correct””and the ending of the issue sure seems to hint towards it””we’ll be seeing a lot more of the genius villain in the near future.

There is something about artist Ryan Ottley, inker Cliff Rathburn, and colorist John Rauch that I’m reminded about every time I read Invincible: no one does action and gore like this team. The fight scenes are violent, fast, gruesome and exaggerated yet realistic. And when cannibalism is involved””well, you get the picture.

If you’re in the mood for a taste of awesome, Invincible #104 is a mixed recipe of bloody action and hard hitting words that will be sure to fill your appetite. You must be thinking, “Why is this guy using food as his illustration when the comic features a cannibal? Gross.” Well, it just seemed to fit in a disgustingly morbid sort of way. Sorry. Go out and buy Invincible!
