D23 Expo 2013: Captain America: The Winter Soldier banner

Hello, Captain America!

Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, and Sebastian Stan previewed the first footage of Captain America: The Winter Soldier today at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, CA.

The first scene (which premiered at Comic-Con back in July) finds Captain America in an elevator, watching the other men who enter with signs of concern. These are no fine men. They are there to eliminate everyone’s favorite superhero with a shield! They pin Captain America to the elevator’s wall, attacking him, but he fights back. Frank Grillo‘s character claims “it’s nothing personal,” but Captain America disagrees after knocking him out. Exhilarating scene!

A trailer-like piece of footage showed the various characters in the film, including Nick Fury, Black Widow, and Captain America. Some of the pieces of footage shown in this “trailer” included fight scenes involving Black Widow; a massive aircraft falling into the water; and shots of Robert Redford. More new footage was shown as well (see description here below).

Evans, Mackie, and Stan talked about their involvement in the project. Stan joked that Bucky lives – although now as the Winter Soldier. Mackie plays Falcon and seems to have loved playing the character, smiling widely.

Evans described Captain America as “still trying to acclimate… to how the world is now.” He is trying to see the definition between good and bad in his involvement with S.H.I.E.L.D.

Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, asked Evans where he had said he wanted to visit at the end of the shoot. Evans thought about this for a second before remembering that he sought to spend a day at Disneyland, asking his representatives on his availability for this Saturday – forgetting the Expo was the same day. He joked with the audience if they wanted to join him afterward. Oh yeah!

“I live for Disney, everything Disney, all the time,” Evans said.

The group also shared an early version of the first clip from Winter Soldier. Though in rough form, with some CGI not finished yet, it shows Captain America talking with Black Widow as he begins to jump off of an aircraft. She asks him about dating someone on a Saturday night, but he blows over the conversation, launching off into the ocean without a parachute! He dives into the water at high speeds and then climbs onto a ship, throwing his shield around to knock the crew out. High-pumping music carries through, raising the adrenaline level. This night-set scene looks very intriguing. After some quick fights, Brock Rumlow, Grillo’s character, parachutes down onto the ship with Black Widow. She asks Captain America again about taking someone out on a date, and the action continues. End scene!

Captain America: The Winter Soldier launches into theaters April 4, 2014!

Speaking of Cap, there’s a Captain America stationed on the D23 Expo floor posing and taking photos with very happy attendees. Check out the photos here.

  3. That has not been announced yet, unfortunately. I would suspect that it would premiere in the next few months. It’s pretty much ready to go, based on what I saw.
