One of the biggest sensations in music today – even bigger than Miley Cyrus’ tongue or whatever Justin Bieber is up to these days, is the song “The Fox (What Does The Fox Say?)” by Norwegian duo Ylvis, whose video for the tune went viral last month and landed the group on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, which saw the host even jump on the performance (watch both videos here below).
I must admit, I not only laughed my ass off at this song and its video, but I really started to seriously wonder, what does the fox say? The fox isn’t one of the animals on those See N Say toys, and I I’ve yet to encountered a fox out here on the streets of Brooklyn, so…
Of course, I’m not the only one who’s wondering what the fox says. Among the hordes of us scratching our heads about this is Cookie Monster, star of the long-running children series Sesame Street. In a Vine video posted this week, the big blue puppet decided to take a break from nom-nomming on some cookies to ask The Fox (also a puppet) what it says. Check out the Vine video here below to see what the Fox had to say about what the fox says.
The Fox, understandably, also wanted to know what the Monster says, and well, I think we all know the answer to that, but the video with CM’s answer is embedded here, too.
By the way, since we’re on the subject of foxes, which is the first time I’ve ever had this opportunity here, allow me to mention that foxes are animals that are in danger of becoming extinct due to threats faced in the wild because of human actions — being hunted; loss and degradation of habitat — but there are charitable organizations like World Wildlife Fund that are trying to help and you can help too by donating to them and/or sponsoring a Red Fox, which gets you a fox plush, photograph, gift bag, and “adoption” certification. Just thought I’d bring it up since the song, though it’s a humorous one, is actually getting people to wonder what the deal is with the fox, and there’s a lot of important information to learn about them.

And thanks to NPR, I now know what the fox says…
