Quentin Tarantino Talks ‘Kill Bill 3,’ Retirement, Horror, and What’s Next

Quentin Tarantino

Quentin Tarantino is no stranger to a multitude of genres and genre bending. There was even a time when the director was contemplating retirement thinking he had accomplished all he wanted to accomplish in the business.

In a recent interview Tarantino talked about multiple topics, including his change of heart when it comes to retirement, working in genres like horror and westerns, the status of Kill Bill 3, and what he’s working on next.

Continue below to see what he had to say.

As for his retirement thoughts, Tarantino said:

“There was a time when I said I wanted to stop after 10 movies, but I went back on the idea.

OK, it would sound really cool because it’s a round number and it would make sense as I would have made three movies per decade, but it’s not fixed in time. I still have some more things to do before being done with movies.”

Of the genres he has already dabbled in horror twice, having written the screenplay for From Dusk Till Dawn and writing and directing his quasi-slasher ode Death Proof. In a recent interview, Tarantino suggests that another horror flick may not be out of the question. He notes:

“If there was something I would like to work on again, it would be Honshu’s movies, maybe. Or a horror movie, perhaps.”

That’s pretty thin, but definitely not out of the question. A proper horror film written and directed by Tarantino has incredible potential.

In the same interview, Tarantino also gave an update on the long-rumored Kill Bill 3, and unfortunately for those expecting to see more adventures with The Bride, you’re going to be disappointed.

“There are no genres I absolutely want to do any more, like ticking boxes: ‘This, done’. I don’t think about Kill Bill 3 that much, as… we already visited them.”

While it would have been fun to revisit The Bride and having her revenge come back to haunt her in the form of Vernita Green’s daughter, perhaps this is better left alone.

For horror hounds hoping to see Tarantino’s take on the genre you’re going to have to wait a while, as Tarantino is already fast at work on his next still-to-be-titled film, which he announced recently via Jay Leno stating:

“I can’t talk that much about it, but I will say one thing. I haven’t told anyone about this publicly, but I will say the genre. It’s a western. It’s not a Django sequel, but it’s another western, and the thing is I had so much fun doing Django and I love westerns so much, that after I taught myself how to make one, it’s like ‘well okay, now let me make another one now I know what I’m doing.'”

Be sure to stay tuned here to find out more about this elusive project in the coming months.

  1. I remember once sometime after Pulp Fiction when he was considering doing a film with the Vega brothers. I’d still like to see that.

  3. i am more worried about him continuing to make cartoons, instead of great works of cinema like Dogs, Pulp and Jackie.
