Star Wars: Episode VII isn’t off to a great start. Not that there is trouble with the cast or anything behind the scenes, it’s just the injury Harrison Ford suffered while on set recently. Nearly two weeks ago, Ford was injured while on the set of the Millennium Falcon, his character Han Solo’s famed spaceship, and it reportedly had something to do with the ship’s door. Initially, LucasFilm stated Ford “sustained an ankle injury,” but it turned out to be something much worse. The 71-year-old actor actually suffered a broken leg and needed surgery. If it is as bad as it is being reported, he could be out for more than just a couple of weeks; in fact, he could be out for months. This isn’t good news for the production as it may be forced to push the film’s release all the way to 2016. Hit the jump for more details.

Obviously Ford’s health is top priority, but unconfirmed reports indicate that he could be out of commission for six months. There was reportedly a meeting at Pinewood Studios to discuss the situation. And while this may seem like bad news, Jedi News said that all of this is just a rumor so far.

So the severity of the situation may not be as bad as originally reported or it may be something that has been blown out of proportion. However, if these reports are true, then there is likely to be a major script overhaul to the point where Han’s role would have to be minimized.

Star Wars: Episode VII is scheduled to open in theaters on December 18, 2015.

Hopefully Lucasfilm, Disney, and/or Bad Robot releases some sort of statement to get ahead of this before it spirals out of control. And if the release is pushed back, well, we would get that May release Star Wars fans are accustomed to seeing.

Just keep your fingers crossed.

  1. Best wishes to Harrison on his recovery… I do not want to see his role minimized, just delay the film until May 2016. Star Wars movies should never come out in December anyway.
