Take a Deep Breath, fellow Whovians, for the new Doctor (Peter Capaldi)) has crash-landed in Victorian London with some help from a dinosaur. But an enigma is afoot, as people are disappearing in apparent spontaneous combustions across the city.
Fresh from his regeneration, the Doctor must deal with the mystery at hand, with the help of Madam Vastra, Jenny, and Strax, while Clara (Jenna Coleman) finds herself questioning if this is the same Doctor that swept her away.
During TARDISblend 72, we discuss our thoughts as we review Peter Capaldi’s first full episode as the new Doctor on Doctor Who. We examine many of the new threads introduced in this episode, the first of Season 8, along with the new mysteries we have before us.
All this and more on the latest TARDISblend!
Presented by Greg Davies (cGt2099 from The BLENDOVER Podcast and The Heavy Metal Historian Podcast) and geek journalist Tom Cheredar of VentureBeat, TARDISblend is a podcast that takes a look at the ongoing adventures in the Doctor Who Universe – as Peter Capaldi makes his beginnings as the next Doctor!
I don’t think you really got this episode. The Doctor is always going to be the Doctor so I think they were trying to just how much a shock it was for companion to see the Doctor regenerate. In the past the companions would the Doctor regenerate and after five minutes it was things as normal(well as normal as it can be traveling with an alien who can travel in time and space). I think Moffett wanted to really show how a regeneration really effected a companion. I don’t think they were apologizing when they had Smith appear. It showed that the Doctor realizes just how much of a shock the change can be to a companion and he wanted to help through it.
