Spoiler alert! Recap of Episode 8 “The Mask” Review of Gotham Season 1, Episode 9 “Harvey Dent” to follow!

There are residual effects to the whole precinct turning their backs on Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie), including the Captain (Zabryna Guevara). Jim doesn’t think he needs them. Bullock (Donal Logue) is of a different mind, when Jim goes missing after investigating a “fight club” competition for a finance job. Bullock makes an impassioned speech on Jim’s behalf. He IS the best character on the show. Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) goes and makes nice with Fish (Jada Pinkett Smith) who promptly stabs his hand with his gift to her. He re-gifts to his mommy who warns, “Everyone has secrets.” The ending of the episode was really enjoyable, albeit expected. And c’mon Barbara (Erin Richards)! Give the guy a break!

Gotham 1.9 “Harvey Dent” review: Jim Gordon meets future Two-Face in the episode. The young Harvey Dent (Nicholas D’Agosto) is exactly who we expect, working for the good of Gotham, eager to clean up the city. They team up to catch the Wayne’s killers. Jim has Selena Kyle (Camren Bicondova) safe and ready to tell all she knows. Harvey is all over using her possibly as bait, without endangering her of course.

The case of the day is a jail breaking explosively talented inmate, that has the mayor up in arms. Penguin, who had been annoying with his over the topness, is slightly more subdued and it works. Same for Fish–the acting from the characters that are supposed to be campy, are getting more real, closer to Gordon and Bullock. Even Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) seems more human.

This show gets better and better as the weeks go on. Bruce (David Mazouz) and Selena are adorable.
