Fair warning: this post will both bring a smile to your face if you’re a fan of Back to the Future (or movies in general), and also make you sad that you weren’t there to experience it in person. Unless of course you WERE there to experience it, in which case I am super jealous of you.
Many of you are likely already familiar with Secret Cinema, an organization from the UK that’s been around for a while now and has a large and ever-growing fanbase (and with very good reason, as you will soon see). For the rest of us who had never heard of them, myself included, the company puts together these immersive themed events, such as movie screenings. But instead of just showing the movie and having attendees dress up as characters and so on, they go all out, recreating locations and costumes and other significant aspects of the film. Basically, they bring those who attend INSIDE the movie, so you feel like you’re in the same world it was set in.
They’re most recent event was Back to the Future, and it is simply remarkable what they put together. This was no doubt the single greatest BTTF party ever. Click on over to the other side to see what it looked like.
Back to the Future below is just the first time I’ve seen what they do—and that alone was enough to make me want to move to wherever Secret Cinema is located and follow them around everywhere—but they’ve done a bunch of these incredible movie themed events including for Ghostbusters, Alien, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Lawrence of Arabia, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Brazil, Casablanca, The Shawshank Redemption, Blade Runner, and more. You can see videos of these right here.
Also, they’re bringing Back to the Future to L.A. next year, so you West-coasters be on the lookout!
You can learn more about their not-so-secret organization at the official website.
