BAADASSSSS!   |

Doctor Who 2014 Christmas Special Peter Capaldi, Jenna Coleman, and Nick Frost

Hope everyone had a great Christmas and is working hard on those New Year’s resolutions since 2015 is almost upon us. I’ve got one last installment of The Digital Wire before this year ends. No major announcements this week, but then again you might disagree.

Below you’ll find info on several future home video releases complete with technical specs, release dates, and links to pre-order at Amazon. We would greatly appreciate it if you use those links to order because a small percentage of each order helps keep this website running at max power. The cover art for certain titles has yet to be finalized.

Starry Eyes

The critically acclaimed indie horror film Starry Eyes (read our own Adam Frazier’s enthusiastic review of the film from March’s South by Southwest festival here) is coming to Blu-ray from Dark Sky Films and MPI Home Video on February 3, 2015. Directed by Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch, the film that has been likened by critics to the works of David Lynch and David Cronenberg will be available on home video with the following bonus features:

Commentary with writer-directors Kevin Kolsch and Dennis Widmyer and producer Travis Stevens
10 deleted scenes
Music video by the film’s composer, Jonathan Snipes
Alex Essoe’s audition video
Behind-the-scenes photo gallery
Theatrical trailer

Why Dont You Play In Hell?

Another film festival favorite will make its debut on Blu-ray and DVD in the dead of winter when the violent, visually inventive Japanese feature Why Don’t You Play in Hell? hits home video from Cinedigm and Drafthouse Films on January 27, 2015. Extra features will include:

Press conference with director Sion Sono
11×17-inch fold-out poster by comic artist James Callahan
24-page booklet
Theatrical trailers
Digital download

Doctor Who

Since next Christmas is now just a tad under a year away fans of British science-fiction can get a nice jump start on their entertainment options for the holiday when Doctor Who: Last Christmas arrives on Blu-ray from BBC Home Entertainment on February 17, 2015. Featuring Nick Frost (The World’s End) as jolly ol’ Saint Nick himself, the first Who Christmas special to feature new Doctor Peter Capaldi comes to video with the only extra being a 10-minute behind-the-scenes featurette.

The Breakfast Club

The late John Hughes’ high school-set comedy-drama The Breakfast Club helped to set a new standard for films aimed at teenage audiences in the 1980’s, so Universal Studios Home Entertainment is giving it the royal treatment next year when it is re-released on Blu-ray for its 30th anniversary. The film has been digitally remastered and fully restored from the original 35mm film elements and the Blu-ray will include the following bonus features:

Accepting the Facts: The Breakfast Club Trivia Track
Sincerely Yours
The Most Convenient Definitions: The Origins of The Brat Pack
Theatrical Trailer
Feature Commentary with Anthony Michael Hall and Judd Nelson

Out This Week

The Equalizer: Blu-ray|DVD

Tusk: Blu-ray|DVD

Banshee: The Complete Second Season: Blu-ray|DVD

Red vs. Blue: Season 12: Blu-ray|DVD

The Spongebob Squarepants Movie: Blu-ray

Those are the highlights of this week. Come back same time next week for more of the coolest home video news tidbits on the web. Happy New Year and the best to you all in 2015!
