This week’s edition of The Digital Wire is a little light on new release news, but it is January after all, so bear with me please. Right now we’re just running out the clock until Oscar night.
Below you’ll find info on several future home video releases complete with technical specs, release dates, and links to pre-order at Amazon. We would greatly appreciate it if you use those links to order because a small percentage of each order helps keep this website running at max power. The cover art for certain titles has yet to be finalized.
Scream Factory has been working on a new Blu-ray release of John Carpenter‘s futuristic action classic Escape from New York, starring Kurt Russell in the role that ensured he wouldn’t be crawling back to Disney for a job anytime soon, and recently announced an official street date of April 21, 2015 for this long-in-the-works edition. Details have yet to be finalized but what we do know is this will be a two-disc Blu-ray set featuring a brand new 2K high-definition transfer of the film taken from the original negative and new cover art created by Paul Shipper. There will also be a combination of bonus features both exclusive to this release and previously produced for MGM’s 2003 special edition DVD. The title should be available for pre-order soon. I for one am really excited about seeing one of my favorite Carpenter films finally get the home video love it deserves. This should be one of the best Blu-rays of 2015.
I don’t know exactly how many people were clamoring for a sequel to Horrible Bosses, the 2011 comedy hit that I still have yet to see, but proving that there will never be a horse too dead for Hollywood to cease beating Horrible Bosses 2 arrived in theaters last November. Much like a self-aware dinner guest who had wore out their welcome, the movie departed almost as soon as it arrived and is now making its way to Blu-ray and DVD from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment with a release date set for February 24, 2015. The Blu-ray will include the 108-minute theatrical cut and a 116-minute extended cut along with the following bonus features:
Endless Laughter Guaranteed
Let the Sexual Healing Begin
Off-the-Cuff: One-Liners You Didn’t See
And More!
On March 10, 2015 Universal Studios Home Entertainment will release the John Hughes Yearbook Collection on Blu-ray and DVD. The set will include three of the late comedy filmmaker’s best-known features – Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, and Weird Science – along with UltraViolet digital copies of all three films and previous released extras. You can get a rundown of the extra features on the Breakfast Club Blu-ray, which will be a 30th Anniversary Edition, here.
