Last week’s Glee 6.4 “The Hurt Locker, Part One (spoilers!) explored the crazier side of Sue (Jane Lynch). The crazy we know – her irrational hatred of all things Glee. The crazy we didn’t know – her obsession with “Blurt” (Chris Colfer & Darren Criss), complete with shrine. It’s kind of uncomfortable. However, the songs were fabulously sung and performed as usual. My new obsession is that Vocal Adrenaline singer that looks like a 70s greaser and sings like Dennis DeYoung.

Glee 6.5 “The Hurt Locker, Part 2 picks up at the exact spot last week’s episode ends, at the end of the Vocal Adrenaline “Whip It” performance, where Sue announces that she will be judging the Invitationals to Will Schuester’s (Matthew Morrison) dismay.

Sue continues to hypnotize Sam (Chord Overstreet) and orders him to make Rachel (Lea Michele) use the worst songs in the history of songs: Ascension Millenium (Corey Feldman-really?), Dear Mr. Jesus, and Justified and Ancient (Tammy Wynette & KLF). Let’s see how that plan works out. She goes even further with the “Klaine” plan but I really hope that works out.

And they get two new members for the New Directions!! This is not a secret. It is in the press release and song list below.

The plot is extra “out there” even for Glee, but no matter how impatient I get at the improbability of reality (I mean besides the spontaneous breaking out into song) in the storyline, there is a beautiful performance by a voice that gives me actual chills, and all is forgiven.

The songs:

“My Sharona” (The Knack) and “You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)” (Dead or Alive): Two fun songs sung by The Warblers is spot on. A few years ago I went to a Glee concert (I know, I know….and RIP Cory Monteith), and The Warblers were the best part.

“It Must Have Been Love” (Roxette): A song I didn’t like in 1991 tasted like sweet nostalgia with Kitty (Becca Tobin) and Spencer (Marshall Williams) taking the lead.

“Father Figure” (George Michael): Rodrick!!!!!! (Noah Guthrie) His smoky vocals lead this emotional classic that has us crooning along into our hairbrushes.

“I’m All Out of Love” (Air Supply): The McCarthy Twins (Billy Lewis Jr. & Laura Dreyfuss) are the focus in this tearjerker ballad. They do it justice.

I really cannot wait until Jane (Samantha Marie Ware) makes the Warblers eat their regret in rejecting her.

  1. So does this mean they’ll sing KLF Justified and Ancient next episode cause the song is awesome, no bs. That song sounds silly but its full discordance messages and is a backslap to the music industry. The KLF also got the timelords doctorin’ the tardis which is like the baddest Doctor Who remix you will ever hear.
