The Movie God   |  @   |

Alex Garland's Ex Machina

The full official trailer for Ex Machina has been released online by A24. A teaser trailer for the movie was released back in October and can be viewed right here, though it plays much more like a full trailer than a teaser. This new trailer is only 30 or so seconds longer, but shows plenty of new footage we didn’t see in the teaser.

The movie comes from writer and director Alex Garland, who is making his feature directorial debut. Garland is a writer of many things, such as the movies Sunshine and 28 Days Later for Danny Boyle, Dredd, and Never Let Me Go; video game Enslaved: Odyssey to the West (starring Andy Serkis); and the novel The Beach, which was later adapted into a movie by Boyle. It stars Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens co-stars Oscar Isaac and Domhnall Gleeson, and also Alicia Vikander.

You can read a full synopsis and check out the new trailer for Ex Machina below.

SYNOPSIS:

Alex Garland, writer of 28 Days Later and Sunshine, makes his directorial debut with the stylish and cerebral thriller, EX MACHINA. Caleb Smith (Domhnall Gleeson), a programmer at an internet-search giant, wins a competition to spend a week at the private mountain estate of the company’s brilliant and reclusive CEO, Nathan Bateman (Oscar Isaac).

Upon his arrival, Caleb learns that Nathan has chosen him to be the human component in a Turing Test””charging him with evaluating the capabilities, and ultimately the consciousness, of Nathan’s latest experiment in artificial intelligence. That experiment is Ava (Alicia Vikander), a breathtaking A.I. whose emotional intelligence proves more sophisticated––and more deceptive––than the two men could have imagined.

Ex Machina will be released on January 23, 2015 in the UK, and on April 10, 2015 here in the United States. The movie will make its North American debut at the SXSW Film Festival on Saturday, March 14th.
