The Road So Far: Last week on Supernatural, we got another Charlie (Felicia Day) episode as she found the Book of The Damned, and got shot for it. Sam (Jared Padalecki) thinks it’s the only way they are going to cure Dean (Jensen Ackles), but Dean doesn’t think it is worth it. Sam pretends to burn the book. The episode ends with Sam about to do a deal with Rowena (Ruth Connell).

In the meantime, Castiel (Misha Collins), and Metatron (Curtis Armstrong) go on a road trip for Castiel’s grace, after the boys find out he lied about being able to help Dean with The Mark of Cain. Castiel makes him human, and away they go! This was a really fun part of the episode. Metatron stuffed his face with the glory of food, and played with the car radio. He of course double-crossed Castiel, but he got his grace back anyway. He healed charlie who was giddy to meet him.

Supernatural 10.19 “The Werther Project” review: Sam is partnering with the devil… the devil’s mom anyway. He brings the Book of the Damned to Rowena, but she cannot read it and the only witch who can is dead, murdered by the Men of Letters. However, she knows they had the codex, The Werther Box, because they were the ones that killed that witch. The Werther Box has its own protection – a green gas that causes hallucinations and make those affected commit suicide. We are shown a family, where the teenage girl took a sledgehammer to the basement wall, discovering the box. She passed out and when she awoke, her whole family was dead. Their house used to be a Men of Letters house. Sam goes to the house, but the lady who answers won’t let him in. Dean shows up and who can resist that face? Not me.

Sam gets to the box while Dean distracts, but everyone in the house is affected. Dean has visions of Benny and Purgatory, Sam is really grounded in reality (well the Supernatural version of reality anyway), but is tricked as well. It is that guilt that eats at him, making him more susceptible to its magic. Dean is able to resist (the Mark protects him as it damns him), and save Sammy.

I enjoyed this episode. The suicides and the haunting ghosts were really dark and creepy, a la “Bloody Mary” (episode 1.5). They really tricked me with Rowena, and it’s rare nowadays that I am surprised by Supernatural. As I’ve said before, I think I could successfully be one of the writers.

Four episodes left until the end of the tenth season!

Supernatural airs Wednesday nights at 9pm ET on The CW.
